PROBATE & ESTATE ADMINISTRATION

We assist executors and administrators who are handling a deceased’s estate.  Our main role is to assist with obtaining a Grant of Probate, but we also provide guidance as needed throughout the process.

Probate Applications

Probate is the process of proving the validity of a Will once an individual has passed away and it confirms the authority of an executor or administrator to act on behalf of the estate. It is often a required step in the estate administration process when the deceased had assets in BC. The probate process involves an application (including the Will and other supporting materials) to be submitted to and reviewed by the Courts. Once the application has been reviewed, probate fees will be due prior to the Grant of Probate being issued.  Once the Grant is received, certified copies must be presented to financial institutions and land title offices to deal with the deceased’s assets.

Estate Administration

After an individual passes away, their assets and liabilities must be wound up and distributed. The role of executor is to wind up the deceased’s estate. We can assist you in completing all the proper steps in an estate administration including: searching the Wills Registry; collecting, locating and safeguarding assets; preparing all documents necessary in obtaining a Grant of Probate; preparing accounts for approval by beneficiaries; assisting in asset distributions; and assisting in the administration of trusts.
